🐾 Dog Information

Dog Tips

Dogs are allowed all year, off lead. If accessing via Hengistbury Head Nature Reserve, dogs should be under close control (preferably on a lead) to protect wildlife. Be aware of strong tidal currents and moving sand bars, especially at low tide, as a sandbank can become submerged, potentially stranding people. No dog bins are available on the beach itself.

Best Time to Visit

Summer is popular but can be very busy; aim for weekdays or early mornings to avoid crowds. Autumn offers a pleasant, calmer experience. Sunsets are generally calm with fewer crowds.

Hazards to be aware of

Strong tidal currents, Moving sand bars, Risk of being cut off by tide

Parking

The nearest car park is Hengistbury Head car park (BH6 4EN), which has 704 spaces (max) and is a long stay, paid car park. It is approximately 1 mile from the beach, accessible by foot, bike, or land train. Alternatively, parking is available at Mudeford Quay car park (BH23 4AB), which has 419 standard spaces and a ferry service to the sandbank. Both car parks are paid.
